Here is a deep excavation where an excavator is working against a secant wall, sitting on some very wet surface soil. The “water-proof” secant wall is installed first and then excavated after. This site is only 100 feet from a large river and the site is below water level. The digger mats are spread out like a roadway to keep the equipment out of the muck. Check this video
