Rail Crossing Timbers
These are 6″ x 10″ Hem/Fir #2 and btr timbers which are being used by a Rail Service Company to install Crossings. The wedge shape is installed downward, with the 10″ face upwards. The wedge shape rests against a heavy rubber extrusion which is against the rail side. The rubber sets the spacing (rail wheels have a “lip” that keep them on the tracks) and keeps the joint clean.
