Specialized Timbers with angle cuts
These special angle cut timbers are being used in a 1.1 kilometer tunnel project in BC. The timbers start with a base of 8″ x 8″ x 12′ long Hem/Fir timbers angle cut to just the right length. The tunnel is roughly 25 feet in diameter and will house 3 large diameter water pipes when completed. Believe it or not after the pipes are in the whole tunnel gets flooded with concrete (encased). This makes the pipes seismically safe. The timbers support a small railway system which transfers the diggings (spoils) and the people and construction goods.
